Owl Creek has a number of activities and groups to suit everyone’s interests:

Blood Drive
Twice per year, Owl Creek strives to reach their goal of collecting 25+ units of blood during our Saturday morning, 4 ½ hour blood drives. Donors step aboard the blood mobile located in the Owl Creek gym parking lot, roll up their sleeves and feel good knowing they are helping replenish the area blood banks which are always critically low in January and July. To donate blood, you must be 17 years old (16 with parent’s consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. For answers to medical & eligibility questions, call the American Red Cross at 866-236-3276. Each donation can save up to 3 lives.
Book Club
Each month, between 5-10 residents bring their lunch to the Lodge and participate in a light book discussion. New members are always welcome! Books are borrowed from the library and may be picked up from the Manager’s office at the Lodge. Check the monthly newsletter for meeting times and dates.
Business Networking Group
One evening a month, OC business owners, representatives, entrepreneurs and neighbors meet at the Lodge for a unique networking opportunity. Each resident introduces who they are and what they do. Each month, one resident is chosen in advance to give a 10-minute presentation providing a more in-depth look at their business and type of referrals they are looking for. New members are always welcome and encouraged to stop by and see what this group is all about; a cash bar is available.
Holiday Lights Contest
Oh what fun!! During the holidays, Owl Creek community is turned into a wonderland of lights and dazzling displays. An annual event at Owl Creek, residents vote for their favorite decorated house. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are given special prizes for their outstanding creativity.
Maryhurst Holiday Gift Drive
During the holiday season, we collect donations and gifts for the children at Maryhurst. Maryhurst cares for more than 200 abused and neglected girls, 66 of which live on their main campus located next to Owl Creek. These gifts help make the girls’ wishes come true and make a difference in their lives.
“To me getting presents was just a blessing. I felt excited because I’ve never received gifts for Christmas.” Katelynn, age 15
Men's Basketball League
For the last 24 years, Owl Creek has hosted a Men’s Basketball League where residents and their guests compete in a league beginning after Thanksgiving through March with a season ending tournament. The goal of the league is to have fun, get some exercise, and get to know some of your neighbors. Games are conveniently played in Owl Creek’s gym with refreshments (beer, soda, & snacks). There are normally 8 teams consisting of 9 or 10 players. The season ending party is a blast with all sorts of great food and refreshments. Check out the October and November newsletter for signup information.
Men's Basketball Pick-up Games
Starting in October, join the fun on periodic Wednesday nights from 9-10:30 in Owl Creek’s gymnasium.
Men's Cards
Men meet once a month at the Lodge for a night of cards and camaraderie.
Mulch Sale

In March, residents have the opportunity to purchase high-quality Grade A cedar mulch from the Owl Creek Swim Team to get a head start on sprucing up their landscape for the arrival of spring. The 3-cubic feet bags are picked up at the Sports Center parking lot. Volunteers will load it for you and even deliver it to your home if needed. This is an excellent way to support the swim team and beautify the neighborhood at the same time.
Open Gym
The Owl Creek Gymnasium is open to residents every day of the week! Play basketball, volleyball, even the new sport Pickleball in a beautifully maintained indoor facility. A Gym Sports Attendant is always on-hand to accommodate your sports requirements. This facility is available for rent on Mondays and Wednesdays for basketball practice, but an “open gym” policy is maintained the rest of the week. The gym can also be used for an occasional private party. Click here to check seasonal Gym Hours.
Pickleball
Owl Creek residents pick up the pace during weekday mornings and afternoons with adult Pickleball. Flourishing in Florida, the indoor game is played equally by both men and women. The court is about a third the size of a tennis court, and uses a large paddle and a whiffle-type ball. The serve is under-handed, and both the serve and return must bounce once. Residents interested in playing simply show up during Pickleball hours at the OC gym and alternate each game.
Play Group
Play Group is a wonderful tradition in our community. Parent & grandparents with young children (newborn – 5 yrs.) meet to let the little ones socialize and burn off some energy in a comfortable and safe environment such as the Owl Creek gym or outdoor playground.
Swim Lessons
Each summer, we have an awesome swim coach staff that brings a high level of talent to our program. They offer private swim lessons, usually on Saturdays for a separate fee. If you have a swimmer who would benefit from some extra coaching or a child who wants to learn to swim or work on a specific stroke, they can help. Watch the summer newsletter for details.
Swim Team
Open to children & grandchildren of Owl Creek residents, the swim team is one of our neighborhood’s hidden gems. The team welcomes children of all swimming abilities, whether they are first-time swimmers or seasoned veterans! Our goal is to provide a fun-filled, educational, and safe experience for our swimmers. Practice starts in May and continues through June and July with competitive swim meets against other local neighborhood teams.
The swim team is a great place to meet new friends, improve swimming abilities, and make memories lasting a lifetime! For the 2014 OC swim team season, there were nearly 100 swimmers, ranging in age from 3 years old to 18.
For more information, please go to owlcreekswimteam.com.
Tennis Lessons
Each summer, we offer tennis clinics for children and adults. In addition, adult evening events are held including tennis happy hours, fast feeds (all levels) and cardio tennis. Dates, times and fees vary. Check the summer newsletter for schedule.
Welcoming Group
As an Owl Creek resident, you know that purchasing a house here is not just about the real estate. It’s about the community. Owl Creek is a very special place where neighbors become good friends, and people do matter. These are just some of the intangible benefits that everyone receives when they move into our neighborhood. So extend your hand to our newest neighbors who have just moved in and join the Welcome Committee where you will occasionally be asked to present our newest neighbors with a gift bag full of goodies from local vendors, and answer a few questions they may have! It’s easy and enjoyable, and a great way to make new friends. To sign-up, just click here for the Welcome Group RSVP. Or, call the Lodge at 502-244-2550.
Yard of the Month
Not only is Owl Creek a great place to live, it is kept beautiful by residents who love to garden! During the non-winter months, our Yard Committee votes on a Yard of the Month, recognizing residents’ outstanding landscaping with a featured article in our community newsletter.
Yard Sale
Normally held twice a year on Saturdays in May & Sept. (8am-2pm), the yard sales are community-wide and attract large crowds of buyers. The Association advertises in the Courier Journal and on Craig’s List, and places ‘Yard Sale’ signage at Owl Creek entrances days prior to the event. Residents simply ready their goods in their driveways, and hang a balloon on their mailbox to signal their participation. No sign-up is needed—just be ready at 8am, rain or shine.
